Questions and Answers: Chiropractic
What happens? Your initial visit takes about 45 minutes. It involves completing a form ( the staff are available to help) and a comprehensive examination (involving: case history, orthopaedic exam, neurological exam, range of movements, posture assessment and x-rays if necessary.)
Will I get treatment on the first visit? Depending on how you present to the practice and the results of the examination, it is possible.
Is it safe? Chiropractic is the third largest health profession next to Medicine and Dentistry. It has been in existence since 1895 and Chiropractors are highly trained. This has had the benefit of making Chiropractic Treatment the safest form of health care available today. Australians make over 16 million visits to Chiropractors each year and people who attend for care are highly satisfied and report less time off work and faster recovery from their injuries.
Will it hurt? There are more than 50 different techniques in Chiropractic, some of which are so gentle that when used on a sleeping baby, will not usually wake them.
Will I feel worse before I feel better? The benefits of Chiropractic care can often be immediate, however in some cases side effects (headaches, stiffness, soreness) can be experienced, but allowing for the natural process of healing these too should settle soon.
Can I claim with a health fund? Yes, private health funds do cover chiropractic / naturopathy / massage. You may need to contact your own fund to make sure you can claim.
Am I locked into a treatment plan? No, we make recommendations and you make the choices. The decision to receive care and continue care rests with you.
Do I have to have x-rays? Not necessarily, probably about 80% of our clients do elect to get x-rays, because it can be a valuable part of understanding your care.
Are x-rays expensive? No, they are currently covered by Medicare and we arrange to have these done at a local clinic.
How long does each visit take? That depends on your case, but each visit may only take a few minutes.
How can I get care when I am so busy? Your care is important to us and to you. We work outside normal office hours to make this possible.
How long do I have to keep coming back? Each patient is different and different recommendations are made in response to each case. Your health care is ultimately your responsibility. Some patients only elect to have crisis care, while others understand the need and elect to have preventative and maintenance care. Your Choice.
What ages get chiropractic care? All ages. Our health journey with you can start when you are born and continue for the rest of your life.
Can I bring my children? Your children are welcome in this child friendly clinic.
Will I be seen individually? Yes, all consultations provide privacy. You decide if you want any family members in the treatment room.
Do I have to change? Examination and treatment does require some changing (men remove their shirts and women are provided with a gown) but if you have any concerns please raise this with our lovely clinic staff.
Can I change my appointment? Yes. We ask that you give us 24 hours notice of any change and our staff will do all they can for you.
